| | Report on The Outdoor Leader Standards and Qualifications Alignment Project Phase II The Outdoor Leader Standards and Qualifications Alignment Project is a key priority for ONZ and its member organisations. Phase II of the project has come to an end, with the Phase II Project Report now available as a download. Standards and qualifications are fundamental to supporting current accepted practice, risk management, and excellence in outdoor program design and delivery. The Board of Directors of Outdoors New Zealand (ONZ) and its member organisations have identified a growing confusion about the plethora of outdoor standards and qualifications that exist in New Zealand.
The main role of the OLQAP Steering Committee is to provide leadership and guidance to the outdoor sector in respect to outdoor leader standards and qualifications. The Committee includes representation from Outdoor Leader standards and qualifications provider, user and interest groups. Committee Members have agreed to focus their efforts towards achieving tangible outcomes that will be of real, practical benefit to the whole outdoor sector. Phase II of the project has included widespread consultation with sector stakeholders, and has considered both the vocational / commercial and volunteer sectors. Recommendations of the Steering Committee have concentrated on identifying gaps and overlaps in Outdoor Leader standards and qualifications, and recommending solutions and pathways to address these. To download a copy of the Phase II report, please click here. A third phase of the project will soon follow, in which a model for training, qualifying and revalidating Outdoor Leaders will be co-created. This project is limited to the non-motorised sector of the NZ outdoors.
