Outdoors New Zealand is the lead body for the New Zealand outdoor recreation and education sector. Recognising the value of mutually beneficial relationships, we provide collaborative leadership and advocacy in the outdoors community and foster strong relationships with our member organisations, land managers, outdoor stakeholders and government.

Our growing community of 95 Member Organisations cover all aspects of the outdoor industry including outdoor recreation, education, adventure tourism, clubs, not-for-profit organisations, commercial organisations, as well as professional, affiliated, and standards-setting associations at national, regional and local levels. A key objective of ONZ is to build and enhance capacities within our membership to enhance the outdoors sector, both nationally and internationally.

Outdoors New Zealand acts on behalf of our membership community as an independent and united voice to ensure influence is brought to bear on policy and decision-making agencies. This is achieved by understanding and advocating the needs and issues that face outdoor recreation and education through active stakeholder involvement and collaborative processes.

At Outdoors New Zealand, we foster knowledge, generate new ideas, and bring them to life.

NEW MEMBER PROFILE

First Training

First Training was established in 1997 to meet a growing demand for training and qualifications from people involved in outdoor employment, education and recreation. This service has now expanded to include standard first aid training and shorter courses, so that workplaces and community groups can meet health and safety requirements. First Training\'s team of skilled facilitators are all experienced outdoor leaders and trainers. They possess a wealth of knowledge and experience gained over many years in outdoor instruction and guiding and have connections with the NZ Outdoor Instructors Association and Surf Life Saving NZ. They bring learning alive by being able to apply real experience to theory.
