Certification Process

The Steps to OutdoorsMark Certification

1  Application

  1. You complete the application form and submit it with the application fee to Outdoors New Zealand.
  2. Outdoors New Zealand confirms the application by generating a GST invoice/receipt.
  3. You get full access to OutdoorsMark audit material, guidance notes and forum once payment has been received.

2   Pre-Audit Determination and Agreement

  1. OutdoorsMark Programme Manager makes an initial estimate of the size and scope of your audit to determine probable cost of the audit job.
  2. If satisfactory, you accept the estimate.

3  Self-Check

  1. You complete the self-check component of the audit form.
  2. You submit the audit form along with your safety management system documents.

4   Document Audit and Audit of Practice

  1. Auditor conducts the document audit using the audit form and your submitted documents.
  2. If necessary, the auditor requests additional material from you to better inform the assessment.
  3. Auditor conducts the audit of practice at a mutually agreed place and time. For organisations only getting a document audit, go to Step 5.

5  Outcome and Certification

  1. Auditor provides verbal feedback to you and an indication of the outcome. If the outcome is a 'deferral', you have (in most cases) one month to rectify the issues that led to the deferral.
  2. Auditor submits report to Outdoors New Zealand.
  3. Outdoors New Zealand processes the report and sends it to you.
  4. You have ten days to make comment on the report.
  5. Outdoors New Zealand issues final report (if warranted), certification material and invoice.
